How to setup a BBS or online CD-ROM door quick and easy!
────────────────────────────────────────────────────────
Simply change directories to \ROMDOOR on the So Much Shareware /3 CD-ROM
and type:
CD \ROMDOOR
INSTALL
In a few minutes you can have SpitFire BBS or one of the CD-ROM doors up
and running - ready for your callers to access and download files from.
We've tried to do most of the work for you! You still might have to make
some minor adjustments such as setting your modem configuration but not
much more. Spitfire BBS comes with 163 pages of documentation and you
should print it to get the most benefit from the software.
SpitFire BBS
────────────────────────────────────────────────────────
SpitFire BBS's popularity continues to grow by leaps and bounds. When it
comes to features, flexibility and ease of use I doubt there is any BBS
software that can match it. You will notice enhanced features, excellent
support, an established user base, many third-party utilities and best of
all an extremely low registration fee for quality BBS software.
Byte-for-byte SpitFire BBS packs more power than Bulletin Board Systems
costing $100's of dollars more. To make it easy for you to test Spitfire
we've included a shareware version on this CD for you to try.
SF-ROM and EZ-ROM CD-ROM door programs
────────────────────────────────────────────────────────
CD-ROM discs and drives have become a standard feature on Bulletin Board
Systems. There have been quite a few online doors created to handle the
chore of running them but none match the value of SF-ROM and EZ-ROM from
author Mike Robinson. SF-ROM door works with SpitFire BBS, EZ-ROM door
will work with any other BBS software. Speed is especially important to
sysops and these programs can fly! They provide so many features it would
be impossible to list them all here. Just to list a few; browsing, text
search and download capabilities, Multiple disk support for up to 100
discs, Up to 1000 separate file areas per disc, MegaSearch feature can
search ALL disks for matching text, Batch downloads and file tagging of up
to 20 files, Local browse and copy to hard drive, multinode and network
operation - the list is endless! As with SpitFire BBS both these doors are
shareware and should be registered if you use them.
CDTA -- CD-ROM Timing Analyzer
────────────────────────────────────────────────────────
This CD-ROM timing analysis program measures the data throughput on your
CD-ROM drive and controller and also guesstimates the amount of time
required for the drive "head" to move from one place to another on the
disc, i.e., the access time. CDTA is freeware but donations would be
appreciated by the author and can be sent to:

New Features In Power Menu
────────────────────────────────────────────────────────
If you own our other discs So Much Shareware or So Much Shareware /2 the
menu system will work with those as well. Place either disc in your CD-ROM
drive and hit the F4 key or click on "Change Disc" under the DISCS menu
option. Power menu system also includes a text search feature that wasn't
in previous versions.
What Did You get?
────────────────────────────────────────────────────────
If your a home user then our shareware discs are an exceptional value
filled with programs to fit most any need. Arcade games, graphics,
business, fonts, budgeting, Adlib/SoundBlaster and MIDI, communications,
windows apps, windows NT, OS/2, clipart, hobby, utilities, communications,
drawing programs, networking software - You name it! Why buy software
first only to find it isn't what you thought? With shareware you are
obligated to pay the program author his/her requested registration fee, but
only if you use the program beyond a reasonable trial period. With over
5500 programs on this disc I'm sure you will find something useful.
If your a sysop, you'll find our CD-ROM discs easy for most BBS software.
We use logical directory names and every directory contains a file listing
that follows the standard format (name, size, date, description) and also
a file listing that contains just the filename and description.
So Much Shareware /3 File Statistics:
────────────────────────────────────────────────────────
Because we date all compressed files to the highest internal file date you
can be sure what you see is what you get!
files dated before 1992 .... 159 = 2%
files dated 1992 ........... 2995 = 54%
files dated 1993 ........... 2444 = 44%
Total Files = 5598 / 662 Megabytes
Duplication between So Much Shareware /2 and this disc = 15%
Duplication consists of the best music, games and graphics programs that
haven't been updated by the authors since SMS/2 was published.
PCBoard setup
────────────────────────────────────────────────────────
File description lists in PcBoard format are located in directory /PCBDIRS
using filenames corresponding to the directory such as DIR1 for file area
#1 etc. The file DIRS is the listing of file areas. The DIRS list doesn't
contain an area for SpitFire BBS utilities since other BBS sysops might not
want to use it.
Other BBS Setup
────────────────────────────────────────────────────────
Each file directory contains 3 BBS description lists. SFFILES.BBS is used
by SpitFire BBS software and uses a comma in the file size. If your
software uses a description list in standard format (name, size, date,
desc) without a comma in the file size you would use FILES.BBS in each
directory. If your software uses a description format of just the name and
description you would use FILES.LST located in each directory.
Haven't I seen this disc someplace before?
────────────────────────────────────────────────────────
We've noticed quite a few So Much ... look-alikes in the marketplace since
our very first disc in 1991. Some publishers have copied our artwork
style, split our disc up to make many smaller specialty discs, copied our
file descriptions word-for-word or even copied our look and feel "So Much"
I can barely tell the difference. Don't confuse our discs with others.
